UK consumer-champion Which magazine recently published (31 10 2023) the results of its 5,000-member survey rating their experiences of the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).
The UK’s favourite scenic destinations were marked on eight criteria:
peace and quiet
opportunities for wildlife spotting
visitor facilities
food
drink
scenery
accommodation
attractions
After assessment, each AONB was given an overall area score based on a combination of overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend.
And guess what? As we knew it would, our very own glorious Gower peninsula (and the UK’s first designated AONB [1956]) was right up there with the best of the best across the UK and was the highest rated Welsh AONB. The Gower peninsula scored 5 stars for the quality of its walking opportunities and 4 stars for its spectacular scenery, peace and quiet, and visitor facilities.
