Gower Coast Path – Rotherslade to Limeslade upgrade!
It’s sometimes worth reminding ourselves at Bayview Oxwich that Wales has the accolade of having the world’s first dedicated path to cover an entire country’s coast. Opened in 2012, the complete path is 1,400 kilometres long and runs from Queensberry in the north to Chepstow in the south.
And we’re blessed in Gower to have 61k of coast path hugging our magnificent peninsula. Running from Swansea SA1 Waterfront through Caswell, Oxwich, Port Eynon, Rhossili, Llanmadoc, and on to Loughor in the north of the peninsula, it takes in sweeping sandy bays, dramatic limestone cliffs, and historic castles and churches. We think it’s the best part of the all-Wales Coast Path, but don’t just take our word for it.
As Swansea City Councils says “Gower has some of the best scenic view along the entire Wales coastline. It really is stunning and we would encourage those yet to use it to go and have a stroll.”
The Gower Path has some very challenging, narrow and precipitous sections of the path which although breathtakingly beautiful are not where you’d go for a ‘stroll’. But there are numerous sections of the path that are flat, paved, wide, and accessible to all.
This accessibility has been further enhanced recently with the upgrade of the section between the gorgeous beachside communities of Rotherslade and Limeslade, near the very popular village of Mumbles and the well-known bays of Caswell and Langland which have also benefitted from a recent upgrade.
Rotherslade is a small stretch of bay at the eastern end of Langland Bay, sometimes known as ‘Little Langland’ and popular with the swimming community. Limeslade is a rugged and rocky retreat offering a sheltered cove.
Now, thanks to the completed upgrade to the old path, which was suffering from coastal erosion, this 1.7k route has been widened and resurfaced, linking these two beaches and offering improved accessibility to those who wish to stroll rather than scramble, and to those with prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs.
We’d thoroughly recommend guests to Bayview Oxwich to explore this section. Both bays have Seaside Awards and Rotherslade has a Blue Flag Award and Limeslade has a Green Coast Award. The paths are easy on energy levels and high on spectacular views. The path is also near to many cafés and facilities along the way if you fancy a pitstop.
Whether you want a challenging cliff top scramble or a gentler flat amble, the Gower Coast Path has it all. And when you’re done with walking and exploring, we’d love you to get some R&R with us at Bayview Oxwich. We’ve a gorgeous selection of luxury holiday rental properties to choose from, to suit the needs of you, your family and friends.
