Gower Walking Festival – the countdown begins!

The countdown has already begun for the return of the annual Gower Walking Festival. It’s just two months to go before the 9-day event running this year, from Saturday 5th September to Sunday 13th September.

As you’d imagine tickets are already selling fast for this annual celebration of Gower, so now is a good time to visit the Gower Walking Festival website www.gowerwalkingfestival.uk to view the programme of over 30 glorious walks and reserve your tickets! As you will see from the website, all works are escorted for safety, and are graded for difficulty, and walk lengths indicated.

This year the programme is packed with familiar favourites plus a number of exciting new routes and themes, all designed to ensure that there is something for all interest and abilities.

From walks that visit Gower’s rich history of smuggling in its dramatic cliffs and coves to walks that discover Gower’s lost lanes, and from walks that uncover the beauty of Gower’s historic churches and castles to walks that venture to the tidal island of Burry Holms to uncover its archaeological past, you’ll find it all here.

On Saturday 12th September there’s a 3-mile walks here in Oxwich, where you can enjoy a knowledgeable exploration lead by expert in her field, Helen Nicholas. It’s a great opportunity to learn more of the dunes and wildflower systems that adorn the dunescape. We’re so lucky to have this Oxwich National Nature Reserve right on our doorstep at Bayview. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric place where shifting sands, sea air and bursts of wildflowers create a constantly changing landscape. And there’s no better time than September to see the dunes in all their autumn glory with late blooming wildflowers and golden grasses.
