‘Kill Jackie’ – made in Swansea, Mumbles and Gower

At Bayview Oxwich, we, like millions of others, have been fixated on the iconic Hollywood star, Catherine Zeta-Jones, as she promotes her latest production, ‘Kill Jackie’ for Amazon Prime, which premiered on 2nd October.

‘Kill Jackie’ is an 8-episode revenge-thriller in which CZJ plays the part of Jackie Price, a former international cocaine dealer. ‘Kill Jackie’ is a production which CZJ has made her own. Adapted from the book, ‘The Price You Pay’ by Nick Harkaway, which is set in America, and has a male protagonist, CZJ insisted that the lead in the film (her!) be female, and the film set in Wales. “I want to play her Welsh,” she said.

And so, for the first time in her long and award-winning career, she has been able to use her own native Swansea accent to play Jackie Price, allowing her to be free to build a deeply nuanced and authentic character. It also allowed her to come back to her roots in Swansea and Gower which also take starring roles as key locations in the production. Though she had filmed all over the world she had never before filmed in Swansea!

Swansea and Gower are no strangers to the big screen and viewers are already familiar with its glorious scenery through television and film productions such as ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Torchwood’, and ‘The Witches’. ‘Kill Jackie’ continues to show Swansea and Gower as a fantastic location for films, but also as a fantastic holiday destination for anyone seeking an unparalleled experience by the sea.

‘Kill Jackie’ highlights several key locations in Swansea and the surrounding areas, including stunning shots of the long sweep of Swansea Bay, views of Mumbles and its spectacular pier, as well as its ‘Big Wheel.’ Closer to home here in Oxwich, we get to see Jackie Price crawling out of a lorry at North Road Service Station at Cilibion, near the spine of Gower, Cefn Bryn. This was very emotional to see as owner Ellen’s great uncle Stan once ran the sawmills across the road, and the garage was the last possible stop for sweets on the journey home from school when she was a child!

At Bayview Oxwich we – and Swansea and Gower – will never be let down as CZJ continues to fly the flag for the place of her birth. As well as the film locations she has brought about in her PR appearances she also never ceases to give a shout out to some of Swansea and Gower’s iconic brands – award-winning Joe’s Ice Cream, Johnnies Fish & Chips of Mumbles, world-famous Three Cliffs Bay, Rhossili Bay… the list goes on.

So, if you’re looking for a TV series that’s truly made in Wales, don’t miss ‘Kill Jackie’.
