The Guardian goes on a culinary tour of Gower
It was really satisfying to see the food, drink and artisan producers here on our wonderful Gower peninsula featured in a recent article in the Guardian. On 25th July 2026, food writer, Felicity Cloake, took readers on an appetising culinary journey around what she termed “a coastline brimming with seafood shacks, crab sandwiches and hyperlocal favour.”
Surrounded on three sides by sea, blessed with a mild (but sometimes wet) climate, and productive agricultural land and pastures, the peninsula is a rich pantry for sea food, meat and vegetables right on the doorstep. As Cloake says in the introduction to her feature on a holiday in Gower: “We can see the boats that supply the restaurant’s lobsters from our seats.”
The feature goes on to flag up many of her favourite pitstops (chosen from so many more) that visitors to Gower can try whether they walk along the Gower Coast Path, cycle along its designated routes, or just drive to! Together, they give a taste of Gower – or as we say, blas Gŵyr.
Cloake begins her journey in the Victorian village of Mumbles, the gateway to Gower on the south, “chomping” her was around the peninsula, ending up in the cockling village of Penclawdd on the estuary side in the north. Here are her picks just to whet your appetite:
