Gone Fishing

At Bayview Oxwich we’ve realised that we’ve never put fishing in the Gower peninsula into focus before. It was only when we were out walking on one of the north Gower beaches recently, and saw so many people having a wonderful time in this pursuit, that we knew we had to put that right!

It makes sense to start with sea fishing. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the Gower peninsula provides wonderful opportunities for sea fishing all through the year. Whether it’s standing with a rod and line on one of our beautiful beaches or spinning from the beach (or a boat!) or using Mackerel strips from one of our limestone ledges and gulleys, it’s all here for the novice and the seasoned fisherman alike. In summer, try your hand in catching Bass, Mackerel and Pollock and as autumn turns to winter, try your hand at reeling in Whiting or Dabs.

If it’s course fishing that grabs you, a half an hour drive from Bayview Oxwich will take you to 200 acres of farm and the beautiful Coynant Lake at Felindre at the northern edge of Gower. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity and space and fish for Carp, Mirror Carp, Bream, Tench and more. No advance booking is needed, just turn up and pay at the farm before you start fishing. It is only £10 per person, per day and you can find all the detail you need at www.coynantfishery.co.uk

You might not associate the Gower peninsula with fly fishing, but you’d be wrong. There are some great (and secret) locations that when the conditions are perfect are magical spots. Bayview Oxwich can recommend www.flyfishingwales.com run by Kim Tribe, who has an incredible CV and was a member of the Welsh National Team and one stage in his illustrious fishing career. Kim promises to take his clients to ‘the right water at the right time.’ Whether that be guided saltwater fishing here in Gower for Bass and Mullet, or to the many lakes and rivers of south and south-west Wales for Trout and Grayling and many other species. The choice is yours, and whatever you choose, you’ll be inspired by Kim and his passion and skills – which he’ll share with you whatever stage of your fly-fishing journey you’re at. All equipment can be provided in the price of your selected day/days’ course – whatever you need!

Bayview Oxwich makes an ideal base for fishing. When you’re looking back at the triumphs of your catch of the day, or mourning the one that got away, you can enjoy some luxury r & r in one of our exquisite holiday rentals that form our Bayview Oxwich Collection. Whether it’s an exclusive retreat, a contemporary or character cottage, a spacious apartment or a simply stylish bungalow, all our properties guarantee the excellence that will make a memorable holiday for your family or friends or fishing group.
