Bayview Oxwich is delighted to share the news that the much-anticipated Gower Walking Festival programme for 2025 has been announced. This year, the festival will run from Saturday 6th September until Sunday 14th September and will offer walkers a choice of over 30 walks, including familiar favourites and new and exciting routes designed for all interests and abilities.
It’s worth reminding ourselves just what the Gower Walking Festival aims to do, and how it has lived up to these aims year after year since its inception in 2005.
The Gower Walking Festival is an annual celebration of Gower, to encourage participants from all backgrounds to enjoy a unique landscape and a rich heritage. It aims to achieve this by offering an organised, diverse and sustainable programme of events, with minimum environmental impact, to educate, encourage and sometimes challenge all who take part.
This year is the 21st anniversary of the Gower Walking Festival and a great chance for walkers to reconnect with Gower’s unique landscape and rich heritage – recognised as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB 1956) and recently rebranded as Gower National Landscape strengthening its commitment to maintaining its very special biodiversity.
In these 21 years, over 10,000 people have enjoyed the 1,250 walks it has offered and this year will be just as brilliant with a 9-day walking fest expected to attract over 500 walkers to engage with Gower’s terrain, history, culture, flora and fauna.
There are walks of all lengths and challenges (all graded from 1 boot to 4 boots), and for you to see at-a-glance on www.gowerwalkingfestival.uk And of course for you to book!
As you’d expect, our very own Oxwich makes the programme as usual, with a 5-mile 3-booted walk to Oxwich Point on Wednesday 10th September at 10.30. A host of coastal walks showcase Gower’s landscape, including a 7-mile walk to the Bone Caves of Paviland, and a walk to the unpeopled northern Gower shore at Whiteford. There are walks to satisfy the nature lover, the historian, the culture vultures and those who’d prefer to walk from pub to bub or maybe enjoy a gentle, short 1-booted stroll through the woods at Cwm Ivy. This year, these is also a ‘golden hour’ wildlife walk to appeal to photographers and an early morning walk to appeal to bird-lovers. For details of all the walks and to book, please visit the wonderful Gower Walking Festival website www.gowerwalkingfestival.uk
